Laura Nash/designer/pattern maker/instructor
Welcome to my work studio! As you can see, every inch is packed with tools and supplies, probably much like your sewing space.
I've loved sewing since I was a child, Barbie being my first client. At 17, I designed a wedding gown for my mom, and after turning pro in 1988 just to make a buck, I decided to tackle college with a focus on historic garments. After earning my BS in Apparel Design, I soon began making vintage inspired formal gowns for clients, shows, and competitions all around the US. It has been my honor to earn various design awards, to be featured on TV, and in print media. These years of sewing, designing, and dressing all figure types helped pave the way to begin publishing patterns in 2007, launching Sew Chic Pattern Company in 2008.
Some of the places you can find me:
***on Craftsy.com where I teach the "Sewing Vintage" class using my Tia dress pattern, "The Flirty Day Dress." Students learn something about vintage technique, sewing, history, and so much more.
***I am contributing author for Threads Magazine
***I am a Special Collections Designer for Simplicity Patterns.
It is through this medium that I have the opportunity to share with you my love for vintage. It is here that I create a modern pattern with a touch of vintage style in every single design.
My sewing mission is to make patterns:
*** With a blend of modern, classic, and timeless styling, and just the right touch of vintage.
*** A unique numbering system that runs similar to Ready-to-Wear, together with quality pattern making, sizing, and fit standards, ensures each pattern sews together perfectly with a consistent fit between styles.
*** Instructions are organized using quick and professional construction techniques to make the best use of your valuable sewing time.
***create styles with that somethiing special, be it cleaver details, innovative techniques, helpful templates, or special instructions or tips, that make both sewing AND wearing a pleasure.
